I don't care for people who consider themselves better than others, too.

Thanks for reading Jillian.
Working on building one's character is definitely the route to take. Shortcuts only lead, as you say, to tearing other's down and is a no, no.

"There are two ways to have the tallest building. One is to tear other buildings down. The other is to, piece by piece, build the tallest one. This applies to reaching your highest potential. Tearing other people down is done for one reason to build oneself up and feel better. But this doesn't work.

When we tear others down, we're the ones who are already down, and that's where we stay. Thing to remember is to work on the tallest building that is you."

Somedays, I just wish I didn't have to meet any people...

Word, 'Scuzzball' is a word I shall adopt. I met one down the swimming pool earlier.

..And that's correct Symphony...
We all have good in us...I don't believe we are inherently evil. In my mind, we just don't choose to do the right thing, even when we know it's the right thing to do.

I would never think that I am better than anybody else....
I am accused of seeing good in all people (even those my friends say are evil) but I believe that everybody has a good side.

Lib,

You gotta remember, while you aren't better than anybody else, there's also nobody who's better than you!

Tigerprincess.....

Thanks for those words of wisdom.   I hadn't thought about things from that perspective. However, I do believe in dealing with those things we have on the inside which we don't necessarily like.

posted by word.smith on September 22, 2005 at 7:18 PM | link to this | reply

I'm usually the opposite. I generally tend to think everyone in the world is better than me....which is also a problem!

posted by Holy_Grail on September 22, 2005 at 3:53 PM | link to this | reply

Often the things we choose to pick on the most in people are actually a reflection of those things we dislike about ourselves. As soon as we choose to accept those negative qualities that are in us, the less they will bother us.

RAME, thanks for reading.....

What I've learnt comes from my experience.   Most of my observations come from having a very difficult co-worker. There are also a few other people I've come across who share these characteristics. Makes me wonder if they're clones.

The fact is that many of us, myself included, have our insecurities, but I wonder what it is that makes some of us so awful to be around and not others.

Word.smith,
It's interesting, I am reading a book regarding temperaments and nervousness and you have pretty much said exactly what the author of the book says. I tend to agree with you both. Great blog.

Seems there are lot more of them out there than I think. Keep your head up.

word.smith, when it's a case of two people on opposing sides both thinking they are better that's when it becomes unbearable

Have to agree with you word.smith, that it is usually those who have a serious problem with their self-worth who needs to tell the world that they are a cut above the rest.

Hem,
Count yourself lucky.   I like to think that the more difficult among us make life a lot more interesting.  Also,  they keep me in line. I pray a whole lot more.  Keeps me balanced.  I've been flitting through your blogs - just haven't landed properly yet.  Be by soon.

Word--
Fortunately, I don't have to deal with these issue--except maybe on Blogit, which is different.  No one is in my face and I don't have to read anyone I don't want to.  But I know that "difficult people" make life more difficult.  Hemlocker

Aaaww, thanks Telly.
My situation forces me to deal with these issues as well as look at where I am going and where I should be on my journey.

Word.smith...if it ever happens to you, I'll help you pick up your marbles
and put them back in place.  I promise.    In all honesty, no one is better than anybody.  We're all monsters of misfortunae and monsters of human nature.  From the lowests lows to the highest highs, we're always evolving.
