Over the hill thoughts on vision

Oh, caleb, I am sorry that you will need bifocals.  Actually, I find the noline bifocals very easy to use.

Since I was working as a computer nerd for the previous 25 years, I really needed to be able to see the computer screen with my bifocals.  So, I insisted that the top part be used for middle distance reading -- like the computer screen and books laying on the desk.  I am naturally near-sighted and found it quite OK to take my glasses off to read novels in bed at night.  The only problem I had with this setup was trying to read and watch TV at the same time -- then I was doing the take 'em off, put 'em back on dance.  This worked well for driving and other long distance viewing also.  In the car, I used clip-on, flip-up as sun glasses. This was mostly OK.

I am doing some vision exercises to attempt to get my right eye to see better and to participate in all vision efforts.  My current optometrist doesn't think the shape of my eyeball can change enough to improve my vision -- but what the heck, I think the effort to retrain my vision is time well spent.  As a computer nerd, I could have lessened the eye strain by doing vision exercises.

Nanci_@_55, My most frustrating problem with my glasses is with my computer screen.   I can never figure whether to lean way back and look through the top part  or whether to hold my head back and squinch my nose to look through the bottom part.   Neither one works well.   And then the third choice is no better, that is, to take off my glasses and get my nose six inches from the screen.   Oh well, I am thankful that I can see.  My older sister is legally blind.

I'm not too far behind you

My eye doctor used the "bifocal" word for the first time at my last checkup... telling me that my ideal prescription for seeing distant and close up are starting to diverge... where eventually I'll need to different prescriptions.
