I think my catch phrase at work has been
'I wish I could have helped you more', but I know my customers believe me because I ehaust all options before I say it.  I don't let them go, they have to say they are tired of looking and don't wanna be dragged through the isles any more.  I usually hear, "I guess I'll look at Wal-Mart"....augh.

Whacky, "Sorry about that"  is so easy to say but so often it seems to lack real feeling.

When in one of my
onery moods and confronted with 'sorry about that' or 'I'm sorry' my come back is normaly we know your sorry, so now what can we do to improve your performance. I'm really popular with store clerks. Of course I like to balance it out and give compliments and thank yous to those who do their jobs in a professional and pleasant manner.

I know exactly what you mean, my friend....People say this to me all the time.  I'm with you....If you don't mean it when you apologise to someone, don't say it!!

Sorry 'bout that...
I don't think I actually say that phrase in real life. I've said it over the phone to customer's before, and you're right, I don't mean it! lol

I have noticed that society as a whole says things they don't mean, like "how are you?" "I'm fine, how are you?" "I'm fine."

Do we really care about the person we're talking to? No! It's just our way of being "socially acceptable." We also hug total strangers in greeting??? What ever happened to a good old fashioned handshake? I guess these are questions that will never have answers! Thanks for bringing this up!
