tigerprincess, I'm sure many people feel the same. May I refer you to a blog written by majroj. His second blog, second post down

It really frustrates me becuase all I can do is give money. I want to join the military so I could go down and help in the MASH units, or take a boat over the water and help rescue those still stranded.

I agree but the admin have to spend the funds very carefully or else the donors' hard earned cash go up into the air too...and never comes down.

good points--less talking and more doing would be good.

Straightforward, thank you. It is so counter-productive and the fact is that people are offering help

I couldn't agree more on what you've said

Dave, I think it is good that some people set an example but I agree that it is a matter for the individual.

NCWriter, thank. It worries me most that people who can help right now are not being called upon. This is when they are most needed.

Well said MayB!

Agreed, May. Don't talk about giving, just give. And don't just give at the disaster-time, the point of high profile for givers - give all the time. But don't brag about it - it's unseemly. And don't whine about supposed non-givers either. How the hell does anyone know what anyone else is giving? And yes to the giving of skills too. Well said.

Hurricane Andrew, 1992

The governmor of Florida was calling for help, for volunteers, from anywhere. I found out, anecdotally, that over six hundred Air National Guard nurses, doctors and medical technicians volunteered to go. Entire units volunteered. From around the country.

Who did they get? Local units, and the 88th Airborne.; absolutely nothing to sneer at, but a wasted potential for service and experience, and to help the military's image.

One would be amazed at just how much they have to give
if they only would look within their own hearts.
