..And that road is one I am sure you will traverse
with fortitude, from the sound of it.

Your sick building analogy
is pretty much dead-on, MayB.

They narrowed the tunnel as you approached, MayB, but you came out the other side and into the plain sailing again, gazing up at the sky instead of squinting at dark dripping bricks on three curves of the arch and an even darker way ahead. Thing is, you legged it on the brick and now you can hand over to the shag-footed horse again and kick back with a glass of wine, marvelling at the stars. Enjoy.

Dave Cryer, in the past few hours I feel like I've entered the light again or it could be just that I got through another tight deadline

Zarrothepaun, sorry to confuse but this was not a rejection. I am not discouraged but am squaring up for the work. To reach this goal will take a lot of work. I have other ideas which are definitely more suited to self-publishing but this idea that the agent is looking at is of commercial interest and so I believe it will sell

posted by Azur on August 25, 2005 at 2:44 PM | link to this | reply

you're going through what about every writer does.
Don't get discouraged; every writer is faced with the same wall of rejection. It really burns me. I write really good stuff, I know I do. But maybe it's not what sells. Everything runs on money, sad as that it is, it's the truth. If you think it's good why not publish it yourself. It's not a difficult as you think to publish. The trick is to get it marketed. I'd say you could publish a book yourself through a POD for less than $100 if you do all of the editing, proofreading, and formatting yourself. Good luck and don't give up. zarrothepaun alpha (I'm the nice one)

Pat B, when something is signed everyone will hear the woohoo but I don't want to jump the gun. I have Mandela's book here - I must finish reading it. I started

Congrats, May!!!
Woo! Hoo!  As for your hope of "not sounding boastful" you reminded me of the words of Nelson Mandella that most of don't fear failure, we fear success. He says one should not be afraid to let her lights shine because that is an inspiration to the rest of us. I'll print the exact quote if you'd like it. Given all that Mr. Mandella has gone through in this life, I'd say he's probably got a solid point. Way to go!!!

I hope all goes well with the proposal! The waiting is the hardest part! :)

MayB
I will anxiously await news on this....I've not only never written anything for submission anywhere, I don't even really know what you're talking about because I don't know the process of doing so....but I got butterflies of excitement for you in my stomach just reading about yours!!  I not only don't get caught up in all the shit, if I look in on a blog where it looks like something is going on, I check out....I learned a long time ago to never say never, but I sure hope I never find myself hooked into any of those "things"....I just want to read and write....meet some neat people....learn from them and about them and their lives....and not the petty crap I already know people everywhere are capable of....including yours truly....but I don't even know these people well enough to get that serious with them.... life's too short!!!!

Still good news...congrats. And you're right about the "sickness" issue. Sometimes it's nice to take extended vacations from this place to keep everything upstairs in order.

Wordsmith...I thought as much....
I am entirely positive about the book. It will happen. I believed that I was not going to receive a rejection but if I said that it would sound boastful.
I take things one step at a time. I don't want to make a song and dance yet. It's a long hard road.

MayB,

"....and there are some who don't get caught up in that shit." This, is where I believe many of us stand.

That book proposal sounds like it's going to become a deal for you. You go girl!  I'm happy for ya!  Ya know, sometimes you are so negative. I think maybe you are afraid to be too hopeful just in case you do get disappointed or on the other hand, that something happens beyond your wildest dreams.  Me? I'm not going to be thinking about getting my envelope back, I'm going to be hoping and praying with everything I have crossed.   You've done good!  I wait for when even better news hits!

MayB, this doesn't surprise me in the least... we'll see you on the Best Sellers, I'm sure.  Re-writing is all the joy... in my opinion.  Good luck in the process,
