Well it seems I learned something. I got a P for Pass for my assignment, the one I scored poorly on at first. My peer assessor gave me great assistance and I worked on it on Monday, handed it in and I passed. It's not the big score I've had for other subjects but it's realistic in this case.

Please don't put Peas on my blog when commenting. I don't know if my ego can take it!!

and tell your students
that you face critiques as well. Such information just might open them up to your motivation. Something about info shared with a peer being perceived as more sympathetic than a judgement handed down from the all-knowing authority.

Majroj, that is excellent advice, thank you. My supervisors and peers are incredibly nice people HOWEVER I must watch that they don't cause me unneccessary grief by overlooking that I am not immersed in the semantics and knowledge of their world. That takes years and we only have months on this

People, including myself, can be very "macho" behind the blogging mask.

Or maybe the blogger was hurt. Or maybe just mean anyway? Ah, well, remember real life versus blah blah blah, you've heard me often enough.

By the way...I endured, in nursing college, a large helping of the "more in sorrow than in anger" routine. There were some instructors who could not bring themselves to acknowledge my strengths and little victories no matter how much I tried to meet their most explicit instructions. I was confused and extremely down on myself until I shaved off my moustache and my GPA went up a point without my changing anything else. And they would always apologize before the bad news, and they would have apologized as they waved me off the premises.

These women were all very sincere, and none fit the image of a "man-hater"; they simply could not pass a "product" who did not fit their concept of a nurse, and they all held themselves as gatekeepers to the profession. I had to resort to administrative means twice, and to "beating them at their own game" once; I also went into counseling for two months.

So...make sure your instructors aren't going to cause you unnecesssary grief.

Dave Cryer, I think that applies to anything, even blogging. Top people in any field can lose the plot if they lose touch with reality. I have been struck by the humility of my study colleagues. Many of them have doctorates and have taught and disseminated information about which they have great knowledge for years but they have submitted their practices to review. In their own way, they are just as nervous about it as me.

NCWriter, my class is an education subject. I am learning how to construct units of studies. I want to design classes for colleges and privately - predominantly in journalism. I won a scholarship to do this course but I am finding it challenging as alongside studying it is a constant struggle to earn a living.

As high as our degree of knowledge might be...
we always have sth new to learn even if the field we know best...

MayB,
What class are you taking? I love to constantly learn. When I'm not taking a class of some kind, I wish I were. Just remember, in writing, it's all subjective. Stay true to your subject and to who you are.

Please insert comma after the 'no' in the last sentence - otherwise my sense goes awry.

Of the top teacher as the ultimate top learner...

Oh yes, learning is so important. Those at the top of the educational tree need to learn more than they teach. They need to take stock of who they are, then read and absorb and reflect before any kind of dissemination to the masses. If they don't do that, the masses will find them out, they will see through the fine gauze of stagnant didactic, some might say despotic, behaviour. To be a great teacher, you have to be an even greater learner and listener. MayB, you are so, so right. I have met so many who think they know it all, whilst uttering designed platitudes in a bid to make the students believe that they don't think they know it all. Feigned humility just will not wash with deep thinkers.

Again, the great teacher is the greatest of learners. Good luck, no good graft, with shelling your Ps.

All I can say is more power to you for going back to class. It takes a lot of courage to do what you are doing! Good luck and hopefully things will become easier for you (probably more so as your already smart.)
