PatB, thank you!  I have already begun my research.  While I understand journalism IS writing, that I need some sort of credentials to sell my work, and that people will only pay me for something that accomplishes what they want to do, not what I want to do.....still, I'd like it if I didn't have to leave the house, and didn't have to speak to anybody at all!  LOL!!

changed my mind
re-read your post. My last comment was about interviewing a football coach in case you wanted to write about the sport. Then I read the "I didn't want to be a journalist, I wanted to be a writer."  So maybe something's wrong with me, but isn't a journalist by definition, a writer?  Hopefully you get objective reporting or clearly defined personal opinion in the newspaper -- and not creative fiction. Go back and read your blogs, Mama... You're there. Well written factual reporting. I like your stuff... :)

Find a coach, tell him you're researching
for a writing project, a sports story you're writing. Buy him a beer and pick his brain. Keep a tape recorder going, because he'll tell you so much, so fast you won't be able to jot it all down. I was a reporter for a while, and believe me, the problem isn't getting them to talk. Nobody listens any more, and everyone has a story. Everyone wants to feel good about their work. They forget they're talking to "the media" and will unload all kinds of stuff.  An ethical reporter will remind them how their comments will look in print and what kind sh*t will hit the fan, but sometimes they talk anyway. Sorry, I guess this is a prime example ...

Mamacita, the planet spins its latitudinal and longitudinal webs and
we find ourselves doing things that we hadn't made any real plans to do. Writing is writing and all writing is experience. Lock your car doors and carry pepper spray and you'll be fine.

I think you ought to try it before you abandon the idea or is this just cold feet?
