You are best to leave the piece for a few days AND then edit when you are fresh. Over-editing is death to pieces unless they were poorly written

Original, that's true all right.

Seems we are an obsessive bunch...
at least when it comes to our writing.

Ha, I do the same thing.

Marshall,

After a while we have to wise up and realize when it's time to quit editing.

Them's the breaks John...

We either stick with it or throw up our hands in despair.   Disappointed 3

Dseacrest,
that's it exactly. It's almost memorized by the time I get done. At that point, I usually give it a rest as I'm afraid I'll miss any errors. Thanks for the encouragement. I know that all that hard work eventually pays off. Thanks for reading!

Errors
Here is my advice as a writer/editor you will end up going over your work many times to check for errors. It is natural. Yes, it gets annoying but, by the time you are done with it....someone will want it and be happy. I have a story out and I went over it so many times, I have it memorized almost. Don't get discouraged.

I'm wondering about that myself John....

It does take heaps of determination.  Would you be surprised if I told you that I have not re-written the article that was first critiqued for me in the Review and that was months and months ago.  I suppose I might'nt  get around to it until it meets the submission guidelines somewhere.

I often wonder if editing your work is really whatt should be known as 'writing,'  as it is what takes up the most time and it takes determination.

True, it's harder to see the regular mistakes that we tend to make.
Since a second pair of eyes are not usually not on hand, I try to let the stuff sit and then go back to it, but with only a couple of days to go.....

You're a good editor word!
Though it's always harder to edit your own work!
