In Stephen King's "On Writing", he speaks of allowing his writers to write themselves and the novel itself. It's a great read for inspiration.

That's the way I do it...
I just start writing, and it just comes out. My husband, also a writer, believes that characters just talk to him, too.

Tiger,
Good for you! It's a great way to write. Just let yourself get into it and see what comes out. (We've got some karma going on....I just stepped back from my novel and started rewriting it from a completely different direction as well) Good luck with it.

I think it's a good method too, Tiger. It keeps you excited about the story, because even you don't know what will happen next. I've tried all sorts of character-building and plotting methods and I find this method quite liberating. Good luck with it.

I think it is a good device, and not an uncommon one, to let the characters determine where the story goes
