I like your use of outgrown...I employ the phrase myself...

yes...paranoia.. It is my ally.  My way of chasing away idle thought.  If it where available off the shelf I'd probably buy some just to trip out even more...

I know what you mean...I am a very egocentric person my self...I think the kids in school knew I was molested and negleted and would whisper about me n stuff... it was sad but that was a long time ago and I got over it...but it did make it seem that even afterward I'd still imagine it was happening.  I put a stop to that kind of energy stealing my sunshine.

So if/when it ever happens which it rarely does now, I just think of it as a silly idea presented to my higher self from my lower self and brush it off as obsurd...it sounds rather twisted but I find it useful in many ways when I am feeling self-conscious, weird or otherwise uncomfortable...

very interesting...I've noticed that kind of thing in that instead of feeling super self destructive, I'll want to cheat like doing something more mild, that's when I'll think about wanting to smoke a cigarette...the lesser of two temptations...

Whenever I see people whispering, laughing or pointing...I always think they are talking about me, and I have no clue as to why I would automatically assume that....but I do. Oneday a friend said this to me, "Mia, what makes you so special that people are always are staring and talking about you?"

"Special," I said. "I'm not special, just paranoid."

It happens to the best of us I am afraid. (But what if they were really talking about me?)

Paranoia spins the world
what's even more frightening is when you realize that some people are NOT paranoid.  they'll be the first to go i'm sure.

I am eating a pop tart, which I gave up when I had kids.  They're evil, but I am busy talking myself out of worse than pop tarts, so that's when they getcha.

junk food likes to dangle its many golden charms in front of me too...what would life be without irony?

mysteria, I have to sometimes talk myself out of eating junk food but, that doesn't seem to me to have anything to do with paranoia.     I did though, about 30 years ago, become paranoid that my hubby was seeing someone else and I had to talk myself into not giving into a desire for stalking either/or.   But, at this point in my life I think that I have outgrown all that.   LOL
