Dances---great use of time

I wouldn't call it double dipping as that's what people say when they're doing something a little sneaky.   Just think of it as serious organization.  Like you said, you've had to develop that as a result of the day job now. Almost all of the writers I work with (who have made it) work this way and a few steps beyond.

When I see a story, I think beyond whatever "it" is and look at the person's   religious affiliation, oddball collections, gifted children, job advice.  People are multifaceted, so you know you're going to hit a few segments when you speak to them.   Before I'd interview the person, I'd scope out obscure markets that fit the things I knew.  After I met the person, more than likely, I'd have more.  I'd keep the stray quotes in file folders for the new articles that eventually evolved.

As with money, a little bit here, a little bit there, eventually you have something.

Well done, it's great when that works out. Unfortunately it often doesn't for me because the topics I write about are very diverse and often very specialized but I work smart in how I plan interviews. I don't ask the people I interview the basic questions -- I get them before then confirm those details and then move on to more interesting questions

Hi Dances...I'm very proud of you and can recall when you
Were still questioning yourself about whether you could ever truly make a living writing. You're doing great....working hard, utilizing your time well. Keep at it and you never know where it could take you.
