I agree with SilverMoon7 and Terpgirl30, if it were me I'd just wear it. If you appear reasonable they are more likely to recommission. I made my earlier suggestion as a step down from the other comments and because you seemed to want to let offf steam

I think I would simply contact the people and ask them to get your name right in the next article.

I would leave it alone...
And for the next assignment you have with them, I'd point out how you want your byline to read *without* mentioning the mistake.  Chances are, the same person will work with your copy, and will realize on his or her own that they made a mistake.  No need to bonk anyone over the head with it, and no need to ruffle feathers over it.  They are the ones who cut the check, after all, and it was an honest mistake.

Tiger
You can demand all you want...and if it was the product of a sincere oversight, odds are you won't get another assignment.  No one wants to work with a pain in the rear.  I understand the seriousness of it, but I doubt it was intentional.  Now if there is a repeat screw up of any sort, then I'd just stay away from them entirely.

Danceswithwords, don't play it heavy. Say it was regrettable and then ask that they print a small line of correction at the end of the NEXT piece you write for them and at the same time ask them what piece/s they would like from you now.

I send them a note, advising them of the mistake.
I'd also ask them nicely, to get it right next time. Take care.

I would call them and demand they change it so there will be no future mistakes as to your identity.

I would ask

They can do a little correction somewhere, but don't be surprised if they don't either.  It really depends on the publication and how much they value you.  It's a good way to figure that out...just by how they act on this.

My son is 16.  EVERY single sports trophy, school award, official school record, then last year his paychecks and W2 had his named spelled wrong.  The kicker is the paychecks and W2 from the same people had it spelled wrong 2 different ways.  I just filed his tax returns.  It's like he has an alter ego.  He has talked of changing it when he gets 18.

I had the same problem when I was married to his dad. The last name is Allnutt, spelled pretty much like it sounds, but nobody wants to believe it.  I was dealing with police departments around the country.  When I called and gave that name, they thought it was a crank call  I went back to using my maiden name which no one can pronounce, but at least they believe it.

The FIRST name wrong is just WRONG.
