You could well be right
and easy for me to make assumptions from afar but I was just so touched by her determination to have a lovely time with her mother. Maybe, as you say, neither had had too much beauty in their lives. Or maybe the girl had stolen her mother's passport to freedom?

Who knows what was on the mother's mind? Perhaps she was leaving her husband or something like that? My daughter is younger but it is just the kind of thing she says. I would answer "yes" of course.
