writer, don't bother us with logic and reality...these are just talking
points, talking points, talking points.  We cannot think for ourselves, we only say what we are programmed to say.  We are the pods!

Does Damon think freedom means no prison inmates?

"And how do you square the fact that the US ("Land of the Free") has the second-highest per-capita prison population in the world, beaten only, weirdly enough, by your pals in China? Freedom is universally and fairly applied, or freedom is worthless."

So it's a failure of freedom that we try to keep our society free from the threat of criminals and terrorists? I wonder if it occurs to damon that criminals choose to forfeit their freedom when they commit crimes.

DL, Freedom to destroy the nation is not freedom, its foolishness.

If Freedom...
...is God's gift to mankind, what gives the Shrub the right to keep several hundred people banged up in Guantanamo Bay for more than two years without access to legal representation, or families, and without being charged?

And how do you square the fact that the US ("Land of the Free") has the second-highest per-capita prison population in the world, beaten only, weirdly enough, by your pals in China?

Freedom is universally and fairly applied, or freedom is worthless.

Kingmi,
Stop it! What would that so called "test" prove? It was a dumb thought from a "self-admitted" dumb man!

jethro, you have struck an original idea for the internet. Someone should

start such a company??

Jethro,

Again you demonstrate the ignorance of your station in life! "Dirt Poor" China? Please get your ass back here and you can really see "dirt poor" America! At least the Chinese are not pretending to be this great beacon of prosperity! It is the usual practice of a conquering army to assimilate the masses into their culture, not total extermination! Did you know Germany was a close second in becoming the language of America?

Why are you in China anyway? I hope not spreading democracy and Bushism!

Glenn B,

Always such a pleasure. Sir you've become a regular Blogit sideshow circus. I feel like I owe you some admission or something.

Firstly we would likely not be here if Germany and Japan won the war. Well thought on that one.

That I went to dirt poor China to learned a handful of particular things commonly known to many of their children is indeed an indictment of the educational atmosphere in the U.S. and I'm glad you agree with it though I trust it will be the last time you and I agree on anything.

The thing that you usually fail to grasp during your hissy-fits is the interconnectedness of history with all that comes after it. Thus the exclusion of past war exploits from our national consciousness via the media and schools should signal that perhaps there is much else the media and educational establishment wish to keep from us regarding today's exploits (ie. 'good news').

While I no doubt have 'failures' in my quest for truth I am certain that in a test of historical knowledge I would beat you like a rented mule. Were there some real-time online tests wherein people could compete against each other I would gladly invite you to such a perfect arena for your ultimate exposition as a third-rate noisemaker/bomb thrower and nothing else. If anybody knows of such a site please let me know.

Offbeatpub,
And how was your July Fourth? I hope pleasant! We must remember it is a day of reflection on the sacrifice of so many. But, George Bush has cheapened and destroyed all the credibility that once held America above lesser Nations! He has reduced America to a shell of cowards and greedy politicians! Sad???

Kingmi,
Stop trying to pretend that you are a pleasant "old fart"! You, like your President George Bush, hate everything that exist outside your little shell of ignorance. I want to see you both in leg irons! I loathe "bigots", thus you and George Bush!

Excellent way to put it! We are truely blessed here in our beautiful America. I see where Glen now hates you. Not to worry, we all know he is such a wonderful asset to nothing! I love ya~~~

Glennb, Good afternoon! Lovely hearing from you, sir! Hahahahahha!

Jetro,
A typical ploy of mixing realities! What does today's war crimes have to do with past war exploits of American Soldiers? Nothing! As a matter of fact George Bush has rendered the sacrifice of many in America's past wars to meaningless! It seems he has perverted the "war to end all wars" to mean, Let America live on that accomplishment to spread injustice of America's own design! That you had to go to China to "learn" is your failure, not some grand endorsement of America the "beautiful"!

Kingmi,

I read you only because it brings me to such anger and hatred of what you represent; A nation that revels in the agong they inflict on others while taking credit for the natural progression of man! This exporting "Independence" and "Gods Gift to man" is noting but manure spreading!

Get a grip! If Japan or Germany had won the last War you would be just as clueless as you are today!

Nice post. Those who love to talk about our negative world image are likely the type who travel between four star resorts the world around and only talk to sneering Europeans. In China right now they absolutely love the U.S. (Though they are none too happy about Hillary's proposal to heavily tax their exports). Everyday people tell me how much they envy me and how they wish they could go to America. I don't hear people saying they want to move to France, Sweden, or England. Sometimes Australia, but hey, they're rather conservative too.

It amazes me that there are stories over here commonly known to Chinese school children about American war heroes that were never taught to me in all my schooling in the U.S.. Their state owned and completely propagandized television nevertheless felt it necessary recently to run a memorial program about the Flying Tigers. Until this program I had never once been taught about the Flying Tigers. Turns out there's actually a town in China where the center of the city has a monument to a specific American fighter pilot who single handedly took down something like seven Japanese planes before crashing and eventually dying in the village. The program said that this pilot might as well be considered a god in that village til this day. When I ask myself why American students aren't taught about this it leaves me fuming because I know exactly why.
