and oddly enough, they don't hate me... Destructiveness was one, whining another...

Kooka, I have seen what you're talking about, and I know gaming and gamers,
as it happens, being an occasional one myself, as well as the mother of two LARPing adult kids... And this is one time you and I are in complete agreement, regarding this mother and the miserable situation she's setting up for her child and herself. I hope there is someone in her life who can reach through her defenses and help her to see it.

In this case it is a group of good friends who have known each other's children since birth. This guys gets along great with both of my boys and we would not have a problem at all with him telling either of them to not do something. We would tell our sons that stepping on people's stuff is not a nice thing to do, instead of treating a good friend as if he had no right to tell my children to behave.
You really would have to know the relationships in this group to see just how screwed up it was for her to do what she did.

They know their own parents well enough to be pretty sure the old phogies
are not going to actually kill them. They don't know this as certainly about other people.

My boys are much better behaved for just about anyone else than they are for us. They do not listen to us very well, yet their ears are working fine for grandma and grandpa. I think that is fairly common actually. It seems that kids just push harder with their own parents normally than they do with other people.

I hate it when parents do that...of course my own three year old has decided that she will listen to every one else BUT me...when she goes anywhere without me all I hear when she returns is "What a well behaved child you have"...I wonder whose child she had all day...This little girl is going to have a rough life...I feel sorry for her...
