Nah...

...Woodward is no reporter.  Woodward is a storyteller.  At best.  He hit the cocktail circuit inside the Beltway after his initial success, got a sniff of their money and their sensibilities, and that was it for him.  He was the zenith and the nadir of American investigative journalism.  When I see photos of Bernstein next to him, I think of two completely mismatched individuals.  Woodward never had any intention of being an investigative journalist...he simply wanted to hit and run, and he did.

My suspicion is that Woodward was getting used by the CIA, as was Felt.  Woodward alludes to this in his piece.  John Dean over at FindLaw caught this detail as well.

Interesting speculation, though, about how the families are structured.  I really consider Poppy much more hands-on than you do.  James Baker's involvement in the 2000 election was a case in point.  I do think that Dubya thinks he has more say-so than he actually does...I do think his family has him on a short leash.  Poppy doesn't do details, but he does pay attention to the overall direction of the plan.

The plan, obviously, is global empire.  With the Bush Family well positioned to reap much of the spoils.

Volaar, I think rather than brand Woodward a di=ouble spy -- first getting the information and then parceling it out as he thinks his masters want -- I think of him as a reporter who repects his sources.  I myself never guessed why Bush allowed Woodward access to his inner circle, accept to be able to say that he had an independent voice in there, telling the real inside story.  But Woodward does something else for Bush, serriptitiously in the beginning of Bush 2a:  he is a warning to the elders trying to control the jr's.  OK, we've compromised with you, we took Cheney, now back off.  It's my administration.  I admire him for that.

Volaar,
Interesting take on Woodward. It does seem that he sold his soul to the Bush family for access to it! But, the Bush family is very good at manipulation. Woodward has been conned and he in turn has conned us!
