Ariala -- here is a link to his website

This guy had a TV show in Canada but I thought you may have heard of him via his many appearances on Johnny Carson.

 http://www.amazingkreskin.com/

There is nothing fake about this guy, there is definately a rare talent at work. But he is the first to admit that he must develop and practice his tricks. Where some people become students of body language and other perceptive disciplines, this guy takes perceptive abilities to a stratospheric level, far beyond what the average person would think possible. What seeing him live did for me was made me realize that humans are capable of much more above and beyond what we commonly think of as our limitations. It also made me realize that if people with this type of talent walk amongst us a whole lot of wizards, high priests, wannabe messiahs and others from history are now explained. There are well known figures in history from Adolph Hitler to Jimmy Jones who were able to completely captivate and manipulate their audiences, now think in terms of someone who is head and shoulders above those types of people. That's why they call him amazing.

Experience -- creation is merely one of a number of explanations
It cannot be refuted nor can it be proven. Neither position has more validity than the other. My answer to anyone who uses the "take a look around you and tell me how it all came to be" argument is always the same. Take a look at all of the things mankind used to believe by virtue of ignorance that we have since come to understand and explain. The reality is that as our knowledge base expands, more and more of the unexplained falls into the realm of our understanding. How we got here and how we came to be will inevitably become part of our knowledge base.

Vibrance -- you really have to take those types of stories with a grain of
salt. The first question that comes to mind is who is relating the story? Next question is what influences did the subject have prior to the apparation? As for persons of another faith believing in or recognizing Jesus that may be true but is irrelevant to halucinatory experiences.

hey Larry, that is not true that Jesus has never appeared to a non-christia
how about that soldier? who became a Saint? I can`t remenber what his name was but he converted right then and there..and prophet mohammed was a fervent believer in Jesus the prophet. Love, Vib

Not always a believer in religion
I believe religion has apull and control on what people believe in. But look at yourself in the mirror and what do you see. Someone had to create you, including your soul. Look at the creation itself and tell me who manufactured it. Their had to be a Creator. Whether one hugh God or a group together making up a God.

Gome, I've never heard of Kreskin, but you have definitely peaked my
curiosity...he sounds amazing and I'll have to look into what he's all about.

posted by Ariala on May 13, 2005 at 4:33 AM | link to this | reply

Ariala -- the reason I mentioned Kreskin is that he has developed his
abilities to manipulate the human mind. I've actually seen him live and it is astounding how he can manipulate an entire room of people to see exactly what he wants them to see, to come to the exact conclusion he is after. He has taught himself how to do this, practiced and developed an inherent talent to it's full potential. One begins to become a bit unsettled just thinking what a manevolent agenda with this talent might produce. Weapons? Certainly, without knowing of any specific examples it must be, if it has destructive or manipulative power of any sort it is a weapon somewhere.

Gome, no doubt...who knows the types of powers one might use on the
gullible if they really had them developed.  And even if such powers were not available to the human mind, what if instruments were developed on the big scale to manipulat electromagnetic waves in our minds and bodies?  I've heard of such things...

Ariala -- you would immediately become a big fan of The Amazing Kreskin
he'd eat this guy for breakfast. What I was trying to outline was a mentalist trick, fairly sophisticated mind you but a trick or scheme nonetheless. Some people are born onto this earth with exceptional physical strength, others with amazing talents and abilities that elevate them above all others so why is it so hard to imagine that some people are born with elevated mental abilities? Nothing guarantees that a person with this elevated mental ability will have benevolent motives.

mary_x -- your point has validity but these people came much later in my
life. I was brought up in a much different religious setting than these deluded folks represent.

Gome, exactly...I thought about something very similar, and yet, they
failed, because they couldn't convince me.

Okay kooka_lives -- it took me awhile but I eventually got it
You see, there are very few Spanish speaking folks up here in Canada.

Ariala -- The one thing that makes me suspicious of the individual
himself is the newsletter you mention. It would be very strange if it were merely a coincedence and it may well be but think about how a person would pull off an "I am Jesus scam" . The first thing they would need is a following. As you know I have somewhat of a jaded mind towards these things and certainly towards these types of people but that is not necessarily a bad thing when holding up an imposter to harsh scrutiny. But back to how someone would pull off this scam. Important ingredients to success would be to have a number of people such as yourself, outside of his circle, begin to corroborate the manifestation you describe. The constructed appearance of an apparition would be much like a sales pitch in that it would have to be defined, implanted and then followed up for re-affirmation. Does this make any sense so far? The newsletter was the follow up or the deal closer. Consider the possibility that those working for the advancement of this guy as a messiah (or whatever he is after) gained access to your mailing address somehow. Where you walked away from it shaking your head and with your doubts as to the individual's legitimacy many would be taken in. Of course I have no way of knowing if anything I am suggesting hits the mark but it is a different perspective.

Gomedome,

With sales presentations like that, I can see why you're a tad bit put off the merchandise.

But Jesus used to hang around the arcade I worked at a while back. He was an annoying kid. He applied there a one point and I convinced the manager to not hire him. Never understood the big deal about the guy though. If he were to appear in my bedroom I would call the cops, not think he had anything of spiritual value to say. Kind of funny that he pronounced the first letter of his name like an 'h' instead of a 'j'.

Gome, yep, those are the same things I came up with.

Ariala -- there is no good explanation for many things such as this
The man could have an exceptional ability to project his thought patterns or it could simply be the power of suggestion implanted subliminally within your mind from another source. Background television for example, I know it's a weak attempt at an explanation but the possibility exists that the entire scenario as you describe may have been depicted and outlined for you prior to the manifestation. It's a tough one to figure out.

important fact!

Gome, interesting post...but years ago a man by the name of Maitreya

appeared to me telling me he was Christ...He looked Middle Eastern and I didn't know who this guy was but his face stuck in my head.  I told him I did not believe he was Jesus and that he might as well not waste his time with me.  (This was all in the dream.)  He kept insisting and I was quoting Bible verses at him as to why he wasn't Christ, and told him I thought he was Satan. LOL

Then, one day, out of the blue, I got a strange newsletter in the mail from a place I never heard of before.  Turns out the guy in my dream, the Maitreya, was right there in the newsletter!  His picture (see below) matched the guy in my dream.  It freaked me out...I did some research after that and found out Maitreya is a world teacher who appears to people.  Freaky shit.  Do I think he's Jesus?  Nope, but I do think him an imposter.

Maitreya in Nairobi in 1988 MAITREYA appears, 'out of the blue', to people everywhere -- always in a form that inspires recognition. In this way he seeks to prepare us for his public emergence, and to communicate his teachings and priorities for a just world. His first such appearance was on 11 June 1988, in Nairobi, Kenya to 6,000 people http://www.shareintl.org/

Not sure how you'd explain this.  Being that I'm very skeptical and have had my agnostic moments, I could come up with some explanations, but all the ones I've tried didn't really add up.  Sometimes things are just strange.

So, what time shall I pick you up for church this week?

mysteria -- I did play along for years but finally got to a point where I
refused to put up with it any more. Besides, winding them up is more fun. They get downright hostile, then they get over it and then they come back to lose another round. It's comical.

Interesting
That's what I like about this column, I always learn from it!  Fastinating stuff on the fields, the like, whatnot, and such. I pity you having to be subjected to the creepshow.  If it were me, I might just fake it to get them off of me.
