MayB

I worry about the same things, MayB.  If I ever became famous I would run and hide.  In fact, I left a good position once when I was going to be asked to give lectures.  Simply leave your photogaph off the front or back cover when you get to be No1.

MayB, Like television, et.al., personalities make the world go 'round... so I guess if you want to be an earth spinner... as opposed to a mere spinner... I suggest you get on with it.

Hollee, I agree fame and celebrity is overrated and gets too many column inches

MayB - I like you don't want people to know about me--aside from what I

reveal in blogit which is miniscule--but I do so love to explore other's lives and write about them. I live a sheltered life, I think, and live vicariously through them.

Oddly though, I can't stand celebrity tell all crap.I like ordinary people.

FactorFiction, in the world of Blogit, Ariala is the most famous. Outside of here well I can't really comment

FactorFiction, I don't think I am either, except to a few...and that's just
because my ornery.

My apologies to Ariala, but
I don't think she's really that famous... I don't think I even know anyone besides myself who knows what blogit is...I don't think my husband has even managed to retain the name of the site where I blog

I don't mind Firstfig that others have the idea and I know that others will have the same notion and as you say I want to make mine the best in some way. I am only worried that if I leave it too long, that I'll miss the boat this time around but I may have to.

Anthony Wiley, I might as well keep on working while I wait to see the doctor.

Stealing a Thought or a Concept

Should you really concern yourself whether someone else writes about the same subject as you? How many books were written about Lady Dianna or President Clinton or any other famous person? Regardless of what your subject may be, what is unique is how it is presented by you. Only you can add that special something that no one else can provide. The ultimate advantage is to be the first thorougbred out of the gate but sometimes the long shot comes out a winner. Don't worry about what others will or may do. From your tone, time is precious; use it to leave a legacy. Thanks for the comments by the way.

And on the heart surgeons...they were all brilliant experts in their field and I would hope to be so lucky as to have any one of them squeezing the life back into my heart should it fail me.

Majroj, good point. I know it sounds crazy. First of all I must worry about having enough energy to finish writing.

Ariala, to be as famous as you on Blogit would be my worst nightmare. I think it is a factor of not feeling well that I don't want attention

posted by Azur on May 3, 2005 at 9:29 PM | link to this | reply

Usualsuspect, now there's a thought though I imagine I would get mad if my "face" grabbed all the attention and ran with it

Ca88, that's what I was thinking

L.E.Gant, thanks for your comment. I am not so much afraid of success but being able to physically live up to the demands. I also would not enjoy public appearances.

As for the idea, the topic is quite hot at the moment and there is likely to be a rash of books about it then everyone will move onto the next thing. My only counter to all the others out there is to try and do a better job than the rest.

Did the Author of "Seabiscuit" have to tour?

She has a neuromuscular problem, surely she didn't have to.

And so, if ill, should you not.

How about virtual book signings?  Big monitor, webcams, syncro arm to sign the books put under it? Or you could sign bookplates remotely and they would be affixed by a clerk at the other end where the customers are?

Online interviews and soiree's are old hat.

Its a shame your trip away was spoiled, however maybe it was meant to happen that way.

A fear very much related to the fear of success!

However, your "worry" about someone else having the same book idea is meaningless. Ideas are cheap, and there is a very limited number of plots, character types and conflicts (but you know that already). So,what difeence does it make that someone else comes up with the same "idea"?

It didn't stop Ludlum, Lustbader, Grisham, Dan Brown, Clive Cussler, etc.... And, let's face it: J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter is as derivative as chracters come.

Judging by what I've read of you so far...
I'd say yours is a valid concern.  You can always hire a face to be  your name if need be.  If it's not notoriety and fame you're after, let someone else represent you (kinda like the lead singer of Blues Traveller ).  Good luck and feel better.

I have the same worries, but I'm not pursuing anything that might make
me famous.  The only fame I need and want is on Blogit, other than that, I live a very private, secluded sort of life.  Sorry about your illness...hope you'll have lots of energy in the days ahead to get your book done.
