Pappy,what I understand you're talking about here

is that phenomenon of how we are affected  everyday by the impulses inspired by outside persuasive/invasive forces-- such as advertising that leads us to believe we want and need a product we never thought of before.  Or teachings that are presented on the basis of 'Believe this or you are DOOMED!' You know, like grade school spelling...   Am I right?

All the same, acceptance doesn't have to be willing to be acceptance.

Q, O-Dancer and P, thanks for jumping in and making this a discussion!

We are getting into some semantic differences and distinctions here...  I'll try to clarify what I mean when I use these words and terms...

Channeling and possession are still on the same continuum of a single person's body being used by more thatn one entity.  Generally, one may be considered good and the other bad, but either can be either...  The willingness is the factor there.

Acceptance is not always willing; permission is not always direct or obvious;  but this kind of sharing cannot happen without them. Those who accept or give permission unwillingly or accidentally need to understand  how and why, exactly, they are saying 'Yes' when they want to be saying 'No.'

There are ways healers can help, but then we are back to the question of what will keep a person's 'house' free of unwelcome visitors or outright invaders, once the healer goes home?  That comes down to the owner of the house protecting it.

But we don't accept it, Ciel
Not willingly.  We think we are only looking at it, but we are absorbing it and becoming transformed by what we desire all he time.

Interesting topic.

I think most people see possession as the negs invading (widely used internet term I'd never heard before) and trying to sap energy. Five element acupuncture can actually treat for possession.

Me, I often ride or float along with the energy of those around me to get a feel for or understand them and their troubles better. Am I possessed? Good question.

Your advice about centering and grounding to separate myself from others works just awesomely.

A major difference between possession and channeling, to my mind, would be that one is done willingly and the other is not. Though I suppose one could make the argument that channeling is a form of possession.

Pappy in my view, the personality is somewhat more than a construct of the
mind...  in fact, I think it is maybe the reverse...  And there is a difference between the taking over of mind and body by another entity, and the accepting of programming from a persuasive salesman.

F-or-f, Sannhet mentioned this in comments in the 'tie up your camel' post

Possession happens, Ciel
Personality is an artificial construction of our minds and even the mildest form of imitation is a partial 'giving over' of the self to an idea that comes from outside. Some people seem to get lost and never find their way back, if indeed there ever was something to go back to.

Interesting... can you point me to Sannhet's (sp.?) post?

Thanks-
