Many objects on the shelves would be disarrayed or damaged by playful pets unless you've domesticated them to tread lightly!

Actually, Sass, that would be a good idea (the bell)

But what would be REALLY kewl is if the bell would ring about 1 or 2 seconds before he actually FLIES AT MY FACE!!

I want one! He needs a little collar with a bell on it.

JJ, thanks, but I think most who know me are aware of my profession
and know I am always more than happy to answer any questions regarding animals.

Spif,
You should change the name of this blog to ''Spitfire's Veterinary Consulting Service.''  You could earn a lot of ''valuable'' read counts.      JJ

Quirky, exactly!! Especially when I have an important
engagement coming up and I want to be sure I'm not shredded with scratches!

JJ, it can be difficult to train an older dog to like cats if he didn't
before, but one can try. The best way is to use positive reinforcement when the dog either leaves the cat alone or is nice to it.

It looks like he's big in the picture where he's jumping of off something, but i guess there's really nothing in that one to give you a perspective.  Cats and dogs can get along well, so I guess any animals can learn.  They just about have to grow up together or be animals who have been with other animals of the same type.  A dog that has never been around cats is just so curious about them that they scare them, then they run, then everyone is chasing around.  Is there any easy way to train an older dog that isn't used to cats?  They don't hurt each other, but it sure is a pain to have to put up with the curiousity/fear thing.

JJ, he's no bigger than your hand, actually. He does have sharp
teeth and nails though. No, he doesn't chase Stonci around the house but he has ran right past her when she is laying on the hallway floor. Not a very bright idea, but he does it all the time. I'm very surprised Stonci hasn't chomped him up by now. But, she has been trained never to mess with my squirrels even though I know the temptation sets in quite often.

Symph, I gotta admit, yes he's a demon squirrel, but damn,
he is cute!!

Spif,
I just looked at the pictures again, and I think I'll pass on your request.  That little sucker is BIG.  He looks a little too scary for me to deal with.  Does he chase Stonci around?  JJ

JJ, you give such great advise! But I say you try it with him first, K?
Just to be sure it works and all.

I'll never be the same.
Now, I'm picturing Stan the Man reading Tolstoy.  I also have a great visual of him just grooving around the room checkin' stuff out.....he's too cute.

Spiffy one,

Couldn't you put a little collar on his neck and tie it to a heavy rock?  That would keep him from flying all over the place and getting under your shirt.  Of course, it might piss him off so much that he would bite the hell out of you.  With squirrel incisors, you're talking serious, blood-gushing, pain.  Maybe you better not try that.

I'm afraid you may be at that feisty little fella's mercy.  Surely there are some kind of animal tranks that you could sneak into his chow before you cut him loose.  Then he would just groove around the room, real casual like, and look at stuff.  You might even get him into reading Tolstoy or Dostoyevski.  That would occupy him for a long time.

Well, good luck.  Don't get strafed.    JJ     Federal Animal Advisory Command (FAAC)
