Interviewing in person or on phone works very well!

It is different of course if it is a topic that you care passionately about

It must be nice to be that organized in your writing.

DarkkeThoughts, in this case I spoke to the leading people in the sector

QuirkyAlone, it was 700 words. It took about one and a hours. I said one hour to push myself through

You didn't say how many words it is, but an hour is pretty quick for the subject matter and what you described. I'm a little slower than that, it takes me about 2 hours to write a 700 word article.

Sounds like a good approach.  Where do you find the people you interview, or how?

Tigerprincess, having people tell you something in their own words is what reporting is all about. That is what lifts something off the page

Telynor, unfortunately I have to think when I write those articles. The only time I get to write when my brain is in neutral is when I am here. I think that may be the reason that in spite of being impossibly busy I still post blogs.

JohnMcNab, it took slightly longer but at least that approach meant I got stuck right in. It is the only way. After all of hours I give away to grading I needed to make this pay

MayB
A professional's spoken opinions, spoken from the heart, are much more interesting than quotes from an article.  Congrats on finishing your widget article so quickly.

I rather like your thoughts on this one; I tend to just let my brain go into neutral and just write, as those have turned out to be the more welcome entries and articles rather than anything I've spent a lot of time fussing over. RYN: I think it will be a transition too, this pope, while a great deal livier than JPII in the last few years, looks that he's just going to be a caretaker and not stir things up too much.

That's clever about getting them to talk about what's in the articles so you don't have to read them. A lot of times people in the know are much better sources than anything written,
