Thanks dear Tapsel-T
Coming from you it means A LOT! I agree with you and am saddened to think that Terri's life will likely not be spared, but am hopeful as well that good will somehow come from this madness.

JanesO - You write so well.  Your information and facts are well founded.   It looks like Terri's parents just might lose this battle, but Terri's life will not be in vain.   This has brought an awareness to the whole world of the things that you write about here.

Kooka, there are many issues on the table at the moment,
I addressed one that I feel very passionately about.  Regarding my stats from the British Medical Journal, The Lancet, if you don't believe they are a very reputable medical journal, then you need to have your head examined.  I value their judgement over much of what comes out of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

CarolynMoe, I am thankful to say that the
state hospital I spent time in was extremely humane -- as it should be.  I was very impressed, and considered applying for a position there, except that they were not hiring at the time.  And yes, I agree the church should be involved in reaching out to the least of these members of society.

Personally I feel that if we truly cared about those people we would make it so that their families could decide to end their lives and end their suffering. I know that if myself or anyone I cared about was in such a vial and hellish state of existence, I would hope for a quick painless end to it all. I would not wish to live like that and I would not wish to see my loved one live like that.

That does not deal with the issue at all.
The real issue is would Terri wish to be allowed to die.
Personally I thinks he would given the information that is out there.

I must say you really had me thinking you had gone and found some great medical evidence when you talked about your source of information for this in my comments. Instead I find out you took one set of statistics.

I very much believe in euthanasia myself. But it should be up to the individual first and then the family if the person is unable to make the choice.

It should not be up to the doctors of the courts to make the choice.
In this case the courts had to because the family was not agreeing.
The courts believe Terri would have wished to be allowed to die. To over turn that discussion then becomes going against what is believed to have been her choice. At that point the courts would then be taking away her rights to decided, which is one of the reason I truly believe that courts do not wish to over turn the discussion.

I know my wife has very openly expressed that she would never wish to live that way. if she got into that condition and her family tried to claim that she would wish to live that way, I would very much be upset that they would be taking her right to make that choice away from her. I know her better than anyone and I know what she would desire. I have to figure the same is true of Terri's husband.

I recently read in a NAMI article, (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) that the Miami Herald printed an article sometime last year regarding the 700 or so criminally insane inmates being kept in the Miami-Dade County Jail... Many of whom are naked, anonomos, throwing their own feces about, drooling, not capable of communicating.  Unbelievable.  A living hell.  What about these people... and they are in prisons and jails all over the country.  Where is justice for them?  Why is the church so silent regarding the mentally ill?  It's time to get involved... Prison Chaplains, here I come.

Amen Kingmi!
Who will stand up for us should the need arise.  I don't think it will be the atheists at Blogit!

I agree, Justso, thanks for stopping by!

And as a pt is in the dying process, his or her comfort should be insured -- with small doses of morphine or the equivalent. I question whether Terri is even getting that.

There are times when I wish I were a more organized housekeeper!

Many years ago, I wrote a poem to this effect, but the journal in which I wrote it has been packed away somewhere (sigh).

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I've just created a new blog-entry called When I've Been There, Done That, & Seen It All... and what you've written here (along with your entire portfolio) has been spotlighted therein!

This article pretty much says it all!

Write On!

JanesO, Obvious that we should stand up for Schiavo. Who's gonna stand up
for us?  When I read the first Chapter of the "Pelican Brief" I thought Grisham had finally lost his cork.  but the courts are certainly doing a lot of controlling here.

Jane's Opinion this is an incredibly informed post, compassion and

information that confirms my belief that one should live until God pulls the plug. I feel this is a terrible miscarriage of humane justice.
