Definitely
No matter how clever I think I am, If the article/story reads better without my own percieved bits of brilliance that need cutting,  I promptly drop them move on without a fuss.

With a heavy heart I edit when

what I think is great has just gotta go. Sometimes I get silly and store stuff someplace...just in case.

I rarely think my words are clever so when I do that is a good warning sign

May, I just hate to cut my clever words.....but do, sometimes.

Darrke Thoughts, sometimes I try to add it back in but usually it doesn't fit.

I agree with Quirky, it's a sign that it MIGHT be overdone.  But I'd never get rid of it.  If you like it, save it!  Keep a notebook and use it again in another bit of writing where it won't overshadow the whole thing...

QuirkyAlone, I think I would rather risk losing the odd good line rather than running many bad ones.

I would have to say, that is MAY be a sign it needs to be cut, not necessarily a sure sign. There's always a chance that you like it because it's actually good!
