Thank you, thank you. I couldn't wait for a second comment on this. Yes I did think that as they are first year college students that they would want me to "tell" them a lot but my plan is to get them interacting and fast. If they can be passive they will but I won't let them. Also it is very tiring for a teacher to speak all the time. Now I have new sympathy for all the people who taught me

Hmmm, good first day, for sure...
Early on in a class, you will probably need to do most of the talking. It takes students a while to figure out what you are about, then they will loosen up...
