I read all three of them, and loved them as well...

and yes, the cruising research is contemporary. The most influential thing in turning the cruisers into a real culture instead of just a collection of tribes and loosely affiliated individual boats is information technology. Can you imagine how cool a doctoral fellowship to pursue research cruising would be?

RYN: Yes. I try very hard not to think about it. I still can't watch the tv whenever they start showing photos.

Considering what a shambles the american economy is in and the daily parade of corruption in the stock market, my answer is "HELL NO!" RYN: the Grass Crown is the second book in Colleen McCullough's books on Republican Rome and Julius Caesar. The first one is The First Man in Rome. The books tend to be mammoth, but they are great to read.
