Growler, Do Your Freekin' Homework, Please

Sorry, Growler, in one small paragraph you've managed to compromise both your agenda and your credibility. You ask if your readers have ever read the Constitution. Well, guess what, some of us actually study the US Constitution for a living. You apparently haven't even read it.

I offer the following quote in support:

"Let me ask you something.  Have you ever read the Constitution?  According to it, the black man is not even a full man.  Two-thirds, I believe.  Now, how long ago was that written and how come it hasn't been amended?  How can a person even think that they have the right to aspire to be anything that he or she wants, like being President, if the constitution in the country that he is born in doesn't even acknowledge them as an equal?"

The milky venom of your vitriol, Growler, seems to muddle your mind.

Originally, the US Constitution qualified people as either free, Indian or other (slaves falling into the 'other' category...including African, Asian and Arab slaves.) The US Government regarded such 'other' people as three-fifths of a person for the sake of taxation and representation. What's more, Section 2 of Article 1 of the US Constitution, unfornutately, granted such people no right to vote. Only free men enjoyed the privilege of voting for their representatives.

>skip forward about a hundred years

Fortunately for all people, wisdom prevailed in American history when--in 1868--the Fourteeth Amendment became an official amendment to the US Constitution granting all persons born in the US the right to life, liberty or property. Furthermore, Section Two of Amendment XIV superseded the sentence in Article 1 which identified those 'other' people as merely three-fifths of a person. As of July 28th, 1868, all persons born or naturalized as US citizens counted as one full person or vote--including black men. (Women voters came later.)

It's your Constitution, Growler. Please read the entire thing before you start shooting your mouth off. For being such an ass, you've lost all credibility where I'm concerned. I now regard you as little more than another whiney, undereducated, arrogant, unread black person who still wants to blame the world for their own character flaws.

Take my advice. Clue up.

As long as you and your readers understand that what Smith said makes sense.  That's all I'm saying.

Growler...

I never once said I disagreed with what Will Smith said. I also stated at the beginning of my comment that I believe he has the right to say exactly what he wants.

However, the entire tone of your post made it seem as though you feel that the white man is doing nothing but stomping other races (namely the black man) into the ground.

I just wanted to say that if we look at things from all angles, every race and every color has been through the same thing, and we've all seen terrorism in one form or another. White as white can be and I've seen my share.

First off, I never said that the only racism is white on black racism.  And neither did Will Smith.  Second, Will Smith made a statement that if you just stick to what he said, is a fact.  Third, Will Smith's point is that black people don't feel terrified, because WE HAVE LEARNED TO DEAL WITH IT!  So nothing like a terrorism attack surprises us.  Fourth, the black man has to deal with race, because the white man made it an issue at the start of slavery.  We didn't come to America and take anything, America came to us.

I am not here to say that all white people are bad people and that all black people are good.  I wasn't raised that way.  My point is that if you listen to what the man said and you have been in the position that he is in you will know what he is talking about.  Will and Oprah and Denzel and all of the others can have all of the money in the world and I am willing to bet you that there are some people out there that still think that they are inferior to them.

Let me ask you something.  Have you ever read the Constitution?  According to it, the black man is not even a full man.  Two-thirds, I believe.  Now, how long ago was that written and how come it hasn't been amended?  How can a person even think that they have the right to aspire to be anything that he or she wants, like being President, if the constitution in the country that he is born in doesn't even acknowledge them as an equal?

If you have white skin color, whether you are Jewish, Italian, Irish, German, Canadian, South African or whatever, you can blend into American society much easier than you can if you are a person of color, because in this country your pigmentation is the first impression that you make.

The bottom line is that what the man said was true.  And he's got a lot of AMERICAN history to back him up.

I Don't Understand

If black people still feel so terriforized in the US then why don't the wealthy black folk move to a "safer" country? Why do Oprah, Denzel, Will, Shaq, Brandy, P-Diddy, and Kobe remain in America?

Growler...

I'm going to do something I wouldn't normally do and leave a comment on a hot topic. I personally think Will Smith has the right to say what he wants. Black, white or indigo.

That said, what makes any color think it has the inside line on being mistreated? There were a hell of a lot of white jewish people put to death in the holocaust.

The irish people were overrun by the english who decided if they couldn't beat them, let's breed them out of existence by raping their women. I doubt there is a full blooded irish person on earth at this point. Not to mention indentured slavery. That's the slaves that were sold into it by owing money. Think they weren't treated any less harsh?

Not that I'm belittling what has happened to anyone of another color. I see injustices everywhere. Hell, my great grandfather was black. Makes me the whitest black girl around. It just bothers me that there's reverse racism that is never talked about. You know the kind that says the white man is keeping all the races down? I see Miss Black USA pageants, yet all races are let into the Miss America pageants. Can Miss Black USA say the same?

I just worry sometimes that people don't look at things from all angles and choose to believe they are the one and only downtrodden.
