I'm with word.smith on this, Mr. Painter --
I believe, what matters most, is our heart.  God knows our deepest thoughts, and will be the judge as to our salvation.  Is it our desire to please God?  Do we have a yearning after God?  Have we accepted His extraordinary gift of salvation?  That's what matters.  And then, as word.smith said, a person who desires to be more like Christ will also try to follow the rules.  But the rules are secondary, and sadly, too many people get caught up in rules.  I talk about this in my most recent religion post . . . which is buried somewhere at #50 or so since I've been away from blogit for awhile.

I believe being saved is not so much about following rules
as much as it is about accepting Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.  Once I have accepted him, I can then live by the 'rules' that are set out in the Bible.

I don't think
there are any rules--that's what free will is all about--unlike free willy which I think is about a fish of some sort although I haven't seen it so I don't know.

let's get one thing straight
I enjoy the explanations
I even get a kick out of some people's attempts to save me.
and, of course hold the hand to save others in the course of attempting to save me.
however
1. I'm saved -- made the altar call
2. Baptized
3. Confirmed in the Episcopal Church

this means I've got almost all bases coverd -- except that I'm not a baptized Catholic, in which case, I will join the rest of you in Limbo, waiting for the call to the Beatific Vision (I guess), while good Catholics will have already enjoyed such for ages and ages. -- maybe I ought to try that just be be sure -- huh?

on the other hand -- I believe Salvation to be automatic and that all will eventually be saved. It just takes finally coming to enough of an understanding of it that, yes, you really do believe. And this is all internal, for the external state of salvation is a fact.

salvation, in essence, is internalizing what is a true process.

so I've got it down -- but you can still publish your own views here -- I welcome them.

As Rave is not answering your question, I assume that Rave accepts this truth and lives by it.  Rave's faith requires little explanation, and that's ok....for Rave.

Others need far more explanation.  There are the Johns and there are the Thomases.

(by the way, has anyone else noticed that John is only referred to as Jesus' beloved desciple ONLY in the book of John?)

Salvation

Salvation is a gift that is made available to those who repent, believe and confess that Jesus is Lord and that He died and rose from the dead to save mankind (Acts 16:31; Romans 10:9-10). This gift cannot be earned through good deeds or by simply being "good" (Ephesians 2:8; 1 Timothy 1:9). It is a matter of faith (acting out on what you believe according to God's Word concerning salvation).

If you have come here looking for a change in your life, if you have come seeking a peace that is found only through a personal relationship with a loving God, then you are at the right place. God is ready and willing to help you—right now, and right where you are.

Pray this prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Your Word says, "Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21). I am calling on You. I pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord over my life according to Romans 10:9-10. "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." I do that now. I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead.

(that last "simple" was meant to be ironical.)

This is where it all gets to be tricky, and where those that don't believe
get their ammo to attack believers. There is more to all of this Religion business than meets the eye. If it were simple, there wouldn't be a zillion religions on this earth trying to explain it.

The hardest thing for anyone to believe is that there is something in this universe remotely capable of the kind of Love this God clung to so devoutly by the faithful has for us, let alone that He exists and communicates with us.

Love: Herin lies the core of Christian Faith. GOD IS LOVE. When we choose not to love, we are choosing to reject God. Simple.

If we follow His rules, we are following the path to Heaven. If we choose not to follow His rules, we are then choosing the path to hell.

So it was me you were talking about? Where, exactly, did I say, "follow God's rules in order to be saves" pray tell? I would never have made that claim, and I would have used correct grammar if I did. Please, out of respect for all writers, take the steps to quote people properly.

I was hoping you'd go ahead and give us the answer right here in your own words in very short form.

Wish I could help. There is way too much confusion surrounding this topic - depending on whom one talks to.
