Well, normally I would say...

...you should never lie, but this is one case where creative lying can be useful. For the truly atrocious ceramics, you have several choices:

1) give them to goodwill or toss them and tell the hubby that they disappeared in the move.

2) mark the box with a secret code that only you recognize, and make sure those boxes go directly to the back of the attic in your new home. If hubby ever asks about them, you can truthfully say, "They're in the attic somewhere."

3) talk to hubby about them. You never know, he may hate them too.

4) Accidentally on-purpose smash them while trying to pack up.

5) Accidentally on-purpose smash them while unpacking.

6) Tell hubby they won't all fit in the new place, and ask him if he wants to pick out _______ number to keep. Give him a limit like 3 or 6 if you think he might go nuts.

As for the "I used to love these" things that have sentimental or heirloom value, you also have choices. I generally recommend saving lovely or valuable pieces (like antique Limoges china) or unique pieces (like old hair jewelry) and discarding the rest.

1) pack them all carefully in one or two boxes and store them in the attic to pass down to your daughter when she gets married.

2) choose three or four absolute favorites and keep them for your daughter.

3) sell them on E-bay and use the money for a college fund for your daughter, or to buy yourself something new to love

Have fun!
