This struck me-- ouch!
The way it worked with the USSR was they embraced our culture. That really helped erode the communist state. The same is happening, to a degree, with China. I think our best hope for defeating terrorism and totalitarian regimes is through capitalism, the lure of the exportation of our culture, and the enticement of economic opportunities.
The problem with much of the Middle East is they hate our culture and everything connected to it-- especially the freedom. Why? Freedom is dangerous to people whose lives are connected to governments and mindsets that are unable to bend/compromise. For many their religious connection informs all that they think and do. Often they are unable to see the US as anything more than an immoral demon ready to destroy their way of life.
We don't have the answer in the Middle East like we did with some other countries.

Ca88i, I thought about that up to the point I began writing about it.
This is the way I can help, by getting people interested in it, getting them talking about possibilities. And when I found that so fesw (me included) did not even know what globalization was! Whew! Then there is the real reason to vote for politicians. Learning what questions to ask to see where they stand on these issues. How rational is it for us to have no program for migrant workers in America, all the money sent out of the country, no taxes being paid, and no one talking about it!
