Teaching is tough,
I've always respected my teachers. It's always the best teachers who are the first to point out that students learn differently and at their own pace. Take care :)

Taps, Who would not think so? What parent (except Lenny Bruce) would say:
"here, boy, have a snake".  Yet our attitudes, prejudices, false beliefs about standards, and so much other crap get in our way.  Thanks for the comment

kingmi - Do you feel the same way (your comment to Klara) about  parent/child relationships?

I'll let the teachers mull this one over, King. They do agree partially
about the system. But they generally feel the parents are holding their kids back.

Ann, your comments are appreciated and welcomed.  Even though I'm an old fart, I can still rock!

Klara, all students want to be respectful, they all want to learn, to mind,
to love, to be successful, to have and achieve goals.  They want, in short, to be like everyone else.  My personal belief, one I will take to my grave, is that the system, you and me, won't let them.

kingmi - You are a wonderful teacher.   It comes so natural to you.   You teach in your posts, in your comments, in your emails.   By the way, thank you for the email explaining the answers to your global questions.   You make everything seem easy.

Maybe you should treasure

the family grocery shopping time together.

I know many teens who refuse to accompany

a parent for chores.

Ca881, OK, You owe me money? That;s a negative number, right?

I owe you money, that's a positive number (for you).

But absolute value is the distance from zero.  Distance is always a positive number, even if you're walking backwards.  Get it?

Why don't you ask your son what he wants to be when he grows up?  Ask him if he wants to go to college? That's a good motivator.

Ann,
My Chelsea called me at school yesterday and made me promise to pick her up and take her grocery shopping.  Now my district is out and hers hasn't been called off yet.  So she thinks she's going toschool!

OK, you lost me somewhere in the middle of algebra...lol! I just don't get maths. This post made me realise that I will have to try to think of ways to motivate my eldest to learn and study. Help!....
