MelodyStar - Writing out your emotions would be good even if
you never post them.   Looking at your thoughts and fears and sadness in writing helps.  Write a letter to God aking "Why?"    Write of your anger, your depression, your inability to move and act, your impotence.  It will help.  It will also help others going through the same thing.   It will help those who have never been through such catastrophy to understand and empathize with you and share their feelings with you.

MelodyStar - What a gripping and sad post.
I hope that this is just a once-in-a-lifetime experience for you and that your area will never again have to face such an extreme event.   I'm glad you are safe, but it must be horrible for you to look around you and see such loss and pain.

Evangeline2998, They would not refill my meds! I was so mad! I took what I had and did allot of praying! The pain was so much it was all I could do not to scream at everyone. I did do alot of complaing . I just wanted to get away from the pain going on long trips with my dogs and husband running the the hurricane was not fun. At one point I forgot what I had taken for pain . Now I am paying for it twice as bad. It huts just to put my feet on the floor. No one is here to help . Everyone needs moore hlpe than me so I sit queitly and suffer and pray. Thank you so much for stopping by.

posted by Melodystar on September 21, 2004 at 1:25 PM | link to this | reply

And pain too!
As Ivan approached we were in a frenzy to get my meds, which expired just this week.  So the insurance had to okay and early refill--it was a horror.  I cannot imagine what you are enduring.  If I had to do this pain thing in the heat, without water, without bathing...I'd never make it.  I take over 25 pills a day--just to function.  I hate it.  As for insurance agents--we pay over 2000 a year for minimum insurance, and State Farm is so far the only reputable insurer.  At the start of hurricane season, I wanted to up the insurance to replacement cost; he has never called me back, from spring until now (I've called repeatedly). I know he is waiting the season out. Bastard.

Evangeline2998

So may people here without water or food. They have the salvation army set up in places. They just can not handle it all. My family has enough we got some stuff before we left, but we can only do so much. There are peopl here that have children that have nothing to drink or eat. I feel so sad . I am giving all I can. The news is comming through that they have found more people. They stayed instead of leaving. Thank you so much for you kindness.

I was thinking about you the whole time and still am!
I hope all is okay. I donated blankets, pillows, canned food, and clothing to the Red Cross 2 weeks ago. It's not much, but money is so tight. I just hope it will help some. Keep the faith!!

My husband was the same as your parents
When it looked like Ivan was coming for us, he would not evacuate.  New Orleans doesn't drain--a hurricane would mean 8-20 feet of water in the streets for six months (as fast as the pumps can pump).  I also noticed that Ivan is not on the news any longer.  I would like to drive out to Pensacola and bring some things; I have tons of water here; 8 plastic rolls of handiwipes--they must have something set up for donations.  After the Red Cross and United Way screwed the victims of 9/11, I have lost faith in them.  There isn't even a local drive here in NO!  For God's sake!

Melody, insurance does not replace the irreplaceables.

Vera is the sweetest woman in the world, with a kid in the military.  She is very kind to me.  And very dear and caring overall.  Until her prejudices come out...

She refers to ALL Arabs as "Camels" and does not understand that there are a lot of people who carry other Heritages that make this country their own and consider themselves to be first and foremost Americans, and Christians, and are very proud and happy (and defensive by necessity) to be here.

In April, I will have 9 years on the Job......I don't even attempt to argue or debate anymore (the pig thing) but I have also learned to walk away.  I am an outsider.

Too educated to be a grunt, and too obstinant/hard-headed to want to be a Supervisor.

I know you were not accusing me....I am just so frustrated in the world in which I walk.

Gotta come up with a Plan B..........I am such an outsider!!!!!!!!!!  An Alien!!!!!

Melody, more prayers sent your way!!!!!!!!!

Love,

Miriam

I know you were not disagreeing with me. Thank you so much for yoour kindness and prayers. I was just letting you know how I felt about what your coworkers had said, not you. I only know you to be kind and sweet. Thank you once again.

I AM NOT DISAGREEING WITH YOU!!!!

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I SAID I WANT OUT OF THERE!!!!!

WHAT I SAID AS I WALKED OUT WAS, "WELL THAT IS WHY THEY HAVE HURRICANE INSURANCE, SO I DON'T THINK IT IS ALWAYS ON 'THE TAXPAYERS' AND INSURANCE DOES NOT REPLACE THE IRREPLACEABLES!"

Never try to teach a pig to sing...it wastes your time and annoys the pig!

Love, and more prayers,

Miriam

WHAMENATOR

Thank you so much, but I have to say to your coworkers, we pay a high price for insurance here. We also pay in the way of doc stamps . Plus we all have very high dedtuctibles that come from our pockets. How about complaing about paying taxes for those who wont get up off their lazy butts to go get a job. I feel so bad for all these people here no one here asked for them we just happened to be in the way. Just like if you were to get in the way of a car or train . People who make statements like that make me very angry.

MELODY....THANKS FOR SHARING, THROUGH YOUR TEARS!!!!!!

I was kind of offended at some of my co-workers, people I like overall, but who made the brilliant statement that something to the effect that because you choose to live in Florida, WE (taxpayers) have to pay to replace your house every year.

Yeah, someone actually said that, and had three others agree with them!  I grinded my teeth and left the room and let the Great Minds finish their brilliant commentary.

My heart and my prayers go out to you!!!!!

Love,

Miriam

good post
my mother in law, who lives in Fla. has been suffering lots of damage to her home. She has been evacuated twice in all this mess already and they say that Florida was expecting a total of 20 hurricanes this year-how can they possibly take more!? My heart goes out to her and the many families suffering much more loss. My prayers are with them all.

Melody ~  I think most people that haven't experienced a hurricane or the aftermath have no idea exactly how destructive they really are, not only to property and nature, but to normal lifestyles...almost everything a person takes for granted is taken away.

The media ALWAYS blows town after the first few days, and the devestation lingers on for weeks and months.

It's ugly, ugly business, but things will get better.  Hang in there!
