I'm sending you thoughts of calm, shelter, and safety.
I hope you and your loved ones will be safe.  It must be very scary to go through this.  You're welcome to come visit San Diego during hurricane season...we just get little and very rare earthquakes.  Kinda like Magic Mountain. :)  Take care, sweetie.  Keep us posted.

Praying for you and all affected too. Yes losing things invested with heart and soul would be very painful and how stressful to finally start settling in a new home to only be uprooted again. Perhaps it will miss, there is still hope from what I understand. In any case, take care and be safe!

MelodyS, stay strong! You guys may not get hit TOO hard where you're at

even though the scope is covering our entire state and beyond our coasts. Here in Tampa, we're opening many schools as storm shelters for all here and the east coast, so come one, come all if necessary! We all take care of each other.

As far as losing personal items in the house, I understand. Since Charley, I have been looking around my house wondering what I could grab and take with me if need be (besides my dogs...oh, and the husband, too! ) Don't worry. Just be thankful we live in a day and age where we can have enough time to be aware of an upcoming storm even if we can't exactly pinpoint where it will hit.

What a horrendous experience
I cannot imagine what you're going through even though you write about it so well.  But it is heartbreaking stuff. There's a village in Cornwall here in England which has just been completely wiped out by flash floods. It was a village I used to visit as a child with my family.  They had a fab little museum of witch-craft; it used to stretch my juvenile imagination (Harry Potter eat your heart out!) But now it is gone, along with so much else. I wish I had a spell to evaporate Frances for you. Thinking of you.
