Definitely Orson Scott Card, with Douglas Adams being my favorite for humorous sci-fi.

Longtime (since age eight)
RAH, some Theodore Sturgeon, Harry Harrison, early Skip Delaney, David Brin, David Bear, a little Joe Haldeman, some Vernor Vinge (read "True Names"!!), some George R.R. Martin, plus scattered others. The only one whose entire body of work I like is, you guessed it, Douglas Adams.
Spreading out a little, Stephen King, a couple Ray Bradburys, Princess Bride (read Goldman when he was racey and we were in junior high 1967?), and a few scattered books and stories ("Incomplete Enchanter", "San Diego Lightfoot Sue", etc.).

Hi P.D.
I'm more into fantasy than sci-fi but you might like C.J. Cherryh. I especially like her Foreigner series. She does both fantasy and sci-fi equally well.
Check her out and let me know what you think.

I'm currently reading Tom Holt...
More fantasy than sci-fi, but entertaining nonetheless.
Douglas Adams is a must, but I also like Rob Grant, Iain M Banks, Ken Macleod, Ben Bova and Peter F Hamilton amongst many others!
