Because if we allow them to form a non-democratic nation or a theocracy, then we will be facing the same problem in a few more years.  We beat them, and, if they don't want to bcome a peaceful democratic nation, then we should crush them into oblivion.  Might does make right, and it always will.  It's a law of nature:  survival of the fittest.

It is Blackmail...
...just as the coalition saying "show us your (non-existent) WMDs or we'll invade" was blackmail.

I guess the big difference with the clerics is that they are now looking to form their own country into what they (and, hopefully, the majority of the population) believe it should be. Whereas Bush and Blair are looking to form somebody else's country into a new pro-West marketplace where American shite can be sold in shiny new malls and, out the back door, flows liberated Iraqi oil into the coffers of Big Oil and Wall Street.

So how come their blackmail is worse than our blackmail?
