Ballad of a hallucination

The bottle shakes slightly as I carry it in my hands. The tiny pills rattle like music to my ears. They play a song just for me, a song of freedom from pain and the burdens only I can feel. For a second I feel a smile dance on my face, dancing to the music. I open the bottle and tilt it. The little musicians spill all over the bedside table. I begin to count them.. 47, 48, 49.
