Treed

You've heard of the old song, 'Turkey in the Straw? Well, this is 'Turkey in a Tree.' Many people do not believe or understand how a 16 to 30 pound wild turkey can fly, let alone land in a tree. This is a yearling hen who remained after all the rest of her flock took off when they saw me coming. She... Sign in to see full entry.

A Loon Catches A Whopper! Photo One

This was taken over in the Seney Wildlife Preserve, about 24 miles from my home. They have an odd lake naming configuration, but as I recall, this was on 'Pond G.' The loon involved was a very large male. I had watched him dive under the water a number of times before he came up with this ~14 inch... Sign in to see full entry.

Meet The Blue Jay

This is a young (probably) female blue jay, or scientifically known as Cyanocitta cristata. It is quite common in most of the US, all the way from Florida to the southern areas of Canada. Hunters know it as a loud mouthed creature and other creatures in the forest know it as a fairly reliable alarm... Sign in to see full entry.

Northern Water Snake

This is the Northern Water Snake, Nerodia sipedon. This particular snake was about five feet long, which is fairly much about the high norm for them. They are known by many names, but 'water snake' is the most common. I am assuming (remembering how the word 'assume' breaks down) that it is a female.... Sign in to see full entry.

The Snapping Turtle

This is the 'infamous' snapping turtle, Chelydra serpentina (genus and species) to be specific. They can grow to be about 20" long, but when I was much younger, I saw multiple specimens that were over 30" long. My grandfather used to catch them and stew them. I was never a fan of the meat. They can... Sign in to see full entry.

Late Spring Wood Lilies

I've found an old folder with a lot of nature and wildlife photos in it. Today's selection is a bunch of 'Wood Lilies' I happened up early last summer. I always loved the brilliant orange they display. Sign in to see full entry.

Willy - Nilly

Meet a couple of friends of mine, 'Willy' and 'Nilly.' I became such a familiar creature to them, that they began to get surprising close to me every time I came out to the Dollarville Flood Zone where they made their home. Otters are well known for their playful antics and these two certainly... Sign in to see full entry.

This nice pair of Trumpeter swans was taking a lovely stroll around the lakes in the Seney National Wildlife Reserve. According to Wikipedia, these are the largest type of waterfowl in North America. This pair was about five feet long. Beautiful creatures! Sign in to see full entry.

Pearls On A Web

This photo was taken about 5 AM while we were camping. I had taken several shots without good results. Finally, I had my nephew hold up a black tee shirt behind this web. I set the flash to a very low setting and this was the result. Sign in to see full entry.
