I took systematic theology. Since I never took philosophy in high school, it was difficult for me. The text book was written in German and translated by someone who kept too close to the text. Whereas paragraph long sentences might be acceptable in German, they are not in English. However, this... Sign in to see full entry.

I have forgotten the names
of the books. I could look them up, but won't now. It occurs to me that I could find my class notes and read them while I'm writing this. It would make this exercise more useful. What I remember most about this class, other than about C.S. Lewis was that my professor had some serious character... Sign in to see full entry.

My first class was American Church HIstory
I had only one class, no job and my daughters and son were in school. So I had a lot of time. I read all of the material, typed my notes on the computer. I wrote a paper on the Society of Friends, and went to two libraries to get material. One library was in Newburg Oregon. I drove there and back in... Sign in to see full entry.

Finding Fuller
It took me ten years to get my bachelor's. Getting a masters or a doctorate never impressed me. But going to Fuller took me into a whole, new world Sign in to see full entry.

From Grad School to Seminary
I decided that while I was off work, I would go to Graduate School in Counseling. I heard about one school from a fellow Pierce College Student. So I applied. I went to my interview wearing a new suit that I had bought from Spiegel. It was a short pleated skirt and a red blazer with black buttons. I... Sign in to see full entry.

Clark was a singer and guitarist for a popular band during the sixties. His band went West instead of East. If they had gone East, they might have made big. They didn't quite make it in L.A. He wrote one popular song, which I forget the name of. He made videos and was friends with a lot of Hollywood... Sign in to see full entry.

Jody
Jody was the counselor who was both my mentor and friend. We were about the same age. She had been clean for nineteen years. She quit using drugs as a young woman. She'd been a counselor for several years. She was also part native American and used some of their symbolism in her groups. If someone... Sign in to see full entry.

Going back to college
Returning back to college wasn't hard. I took 100 and 200 level classes. Since I already had a bachelor's degree it wasn't hard. In addition, for the last ten years I had almost always been writing. I kept a journal and wrote on the computer. More recently, I took several creative writing classes... Sign in to see full entry.

Alcoholic
In September of 1999, I began my studies at Pierce College to become a Drug and Alcohol counselor. My daughters were in second grade and my attempt to become a full time rider failed. I thought that since it had been four years since I had worked as a crisis worker, that I needed to have additional... Sign in to see full entry.
