Not Afraid to Tackle the Tuff-Stuff
Linda
Gregory was born in Seattle, Washington and grew up in a working class
family. At the age of two her father gave her the nickname "Tuffy"
because of her resilient nature. Many of her childhood memories
revolved around labor union “shop talk” and an
occasional walk on the picket line. It is no surprise that as an adult
she has
taken every opportunity available to be involved in matters involving
injustice. With a heightened interest in community service and years of
experience as a volunteer, Linda returned to school to obtain a
Bachelor of
Science degree in Human Services Management. She has also finished
course work
in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising.
Advocacy and
activism have always been at the forefront of her pursuits. She worked
as a
political activist in the State of Washington on legislation for both
minimum
wage increases and the patient’s bill of rights. Project planning is
also an
area of great interest and her past experiences include: development
and implementation
of a community daycare/preschool program; planning and implementation
of a
middle-school student - community awareness project; and creator and
editor of
a community newsletter. Her most recent focus of attention
has been
in the area of Life Skills education and she is currently developing a
curriculum to raise the financial and personal standards for
middle-class
families. This project however was interrupted when Hurricane Katrina
dealt a devastating
blow to the communities in the Gulf Coast. Working with close friends
in New
Orleans, directly affected by the disaster, she has successfully
launched a
non-profit relief organization, House by House, Inc. to assist in the
rebuilding of those communities. She
is currently serving on the House by House Board of
Directors and assisting with project planning and
fundraising.
