My real name is Daniel Jenkins. I am a teacher and history student. I live between Sydney and Battambang - the latter being a beautiful provincial city in the west of Cambodia.
I have been inspired to write on the internet in order to find an outlet for basic political and cultural expression. When I lived in Sydney, and before that in Canberra, it was easy to be politically active. In Cambodia, however, there is no practical outlet for that and so now I am writing more than before. I am enjoying the discipline involved in contributing to a semi-regulated site.
Ultimately, I think everybody is defined by their politics - whether they enjoy talking about it or not. Most people have a strong political belief system. I am a socialist, and while that remains an incredibly broad term, I try to approach everything I do from that basic persective. It's not an abstract ideology; It is a fundamental morality. It's a way of looking at all the interactions in your life, and the life of your friends, and discerning what they mean.
One of the questions that I am asked most often is: What makes you think that a socialist revolution can happen? However, revolution or not, there are socialist victories all over the world every week. Parents on school committees fighting against censorship, workers in France campaigning for a 'no' vote in the EU referendum, Australian consumers setting up community banks.
The writing I do on this site is my tiny contribution to the continuation of this fight!
