I was born in Kampala, Uganda and grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland. From a little child, I knew I would be a journalist first, then do 'proper' writing.
I graduated in French and Spanish from Durham University, England, and then started as a reporter on the Dundee Courier. From there my 27 year media career took me into television (producer/director, researcher, presenter) and radio (presenter) and print (newspapers, magazines, on-line) I've worked throughout Scotland and in Andalucia, Spain, where I lived for 7 years.
Meanwhile I got married twice, and had two children in my first marriage. My son is in Hamburg, Germany doing a PhD in particle physics, and my daughter has followed her heart to Chile to be with her great love.
I left my last job in September (2008) to return to our home on the island of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland to start full-time fiction writing. It felt the right thing to do, and I've never been happier! Currently I'm looking for an organisation to sponsor and challenge me to write a short story every day for a year.
Thanks for visiting my blog, nice to meet you. Blogit has really enriched my life since I joined in September.
