Thomas Cornish believes he was given the ability to not walk for a reason.

"I say ability because I believe when you lose one sense, others are forced to get stronger," said Cornish, of Ocean Lakes, who has cerebral palsy.

So his voice is stronger, louder and bigger, said the 29-year- old.

"It gives you a reason to look at me when I say the things I say," said Cornish, who wants people to know he has the same feelings and emotions as they do.

The 2001 Ocean Lakes High School alum is an accounting major at Tidewater Community College. He stays busy.

Last June he launched an Internet-based inspirational service,http://www.ifeellikeyou.com/ He is also working on a book of 100 poems titled, "I Feel Like You, You Feel Like Me," and he wants to offer motivational speaking engagements throughout the area.

The idea originated when Cornish thought about Christopher Reeve and how he became the voice for spinal-cord injuries.

"I want to become the voice of cerebral palsy," said Cornish.

A poetry writer since the age of 11, Cornish has accumulated a large collection of his poetic expression.

"Like any poet, I can write about whatever emotion I'm feeling and the thoughts I'm inspired by," said Cornish, who said he's been told for years that he should publish his work.

Cornish intends to donate proceeds from the book of poetry to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation. He hopes to raise between $5,000 and $20,000.

When visitors visit his Web site and sign up, they will receive a T-shirt with a saying Cornish has written. He also wants people to send him topics to write about.

"At the end of the day, this is not about me. I'm just the voice for the I Feel Like You Experience, and I'm here for a reason," he said.
