I am a former U.S, Marine who never dared to explore my love for writing. In recent years I have been able to stick my toe in the water, but now have decided to just jump in. I am very much a man, and sharing my experience, strength, and hope with others will not damage my manhood; in fact, it will enhance it. I love to put words and feelings on paper because together they are as unique as I am. No one in the world can put words together exactly like someone else because, like our fingerprint, there is no match.

They say that youth is wasted on the young, and wisdom comes too late in life. Well, I have grown wise at a young age, and I will use the wisdom I have gained to make my remaining years worth the journey. I have learned so much through some very dark experiences. One never learns when they are driving in a Cadillac with a pocket full of money. When life knocks you on your butt, you learn exponentially what is most important in life. During my dark days when I experienced the deaths of fellow Marines, I learned how precious and valuable life can be. Misery and grief, although difficult to handle, is a bridge we must all cross at one point in our lives. Some experience it more than others.

When darkness has fallen upon me, it happened to be the exact time in my life when I experienced the most clarity. It automatically prioritizes our values. In our daily lives we place great emphasis and value on  materialistic things. When tragedy strikes, we realize how cheap our posessions become, and how valuable the life of someone we love was. If only we could learn this lesson without the pain.

We are merely the product of our environment. Who we are today is comprised of experiences that were often bad as well as good. I would not change my life if I had the chance to rewind the tape to the beginning. The choices I have made and the mistakes along the way are what has made me who I am today.
