You were an artist once, he said, she said, I said to the back of my mind,
whoever I may be - as defined by those who label me
paint, draw, write, sing - never finished, never done
and never moving on
this is who you were.
A guitar sits in the corner, scattered lyrics on coffee stained paper
with some mention of love - that sorrow's eyes give reference of
tears, blood, heartache, pain - lies of lust, joy unsung
that a smile had begun
this is who you were.
I am who you are, a self undiscovered, one last person for me to find
whoever I may be - as hardened by that which tortures me
work, harder, write, faster - one attempt, or one last try,
to show the world before i die
this is who I am.
