“Wait a minute,” Louie grabbed Tim by the arm before he could open the door. “Think before you go in there. You are pissed. I am pissed. But exactly what are you going to do in there besides put more heat on all of us and possibly get yourself fired?”

“Carter Parker made my life hell because I would not take the shit detail like all the other newbies.” Tim replied. “And I promised him that if he did anything else to me after I left that I would make him live to regret it.” Tim jerked away from Louie. “If I am anything, I am a man of my word.”

Louie rushed to catch up with his new partner. Partner meant you covered their ass no matter what. Louie didn’t know what “no matter what” was but he was sure that it was going to seriously affect the rest of his day.

“There you are!” Tim plowed into his former trainer. “I warned you to leave me alone.” He had the man by the throat.

“Damn it Tim!” Louie growled and attempted to pull him off of the IAB asshole that was making their lives hell, but it was no use.

“I told you I would make your life a living hell,” Tim continued growling down at the man, dwarfing him both physically and psychologically. “And now I am investigating YOU,” He emphasized in a low snarl. “I know where the bodies are buried, you bastard. And I am going to dig them up.”

“What the hell is going on here?” Captain Thomas boomed as he came down the hall.

“Stay the fuck out of it!” Tim shouted. “This is between me and ass wipe here. He’s been going in and changing people’s criminal records.” Tim let the man fall to the ground. “Mine,” He continued, “My partner’s, my lieutenant’s, other detectives in my division. But you wouldn’t know anything about that would you?”

“I’m certain you are wrong.” The captain stayed very calm. That was a sure sign to Louie that he was lying through his teeth.

“I don’t think so,” Louie spoke up. “All the files were modified either yesterday or this morning. And strangely enough,” Louie glared at the captain. Tim was his partner. If he was going down, so was Louie. “The records are only those of myself, my fiancé’, my former partner and my new partner. If I were a paranoid man, I’d say that you or someone who works for you doesn’t like us very much.”

“What I don’t like is having my office disrupted in this fashion. Captain Hyatt is going to here about this.” Thomas stalked off.

“You better watch your back, asshole.” Tim turned on his heel and walked away.

“You know that we are in serious hot water right now.” Louie rushed to catch up with him. “Nick is going to kill us.”

“Fine!” Tim shouted. “Let her kill us. She won’t fire you and if she cans me at least I won’t have to worry that everyone thinks I am a low life because I worked at IAB and no one will be suspicious of me anymore!”

“Is that what this is all about?” Louie growled. “God damn it. You are a new partner. It just takes time. Don’t you get it?”

“No,” Tim just stopped in his tracks. “I have had one partner in my short career. I worked on my own at IAB and my vice partner was killed in the line of duty and she had only been on the street for about a year. Nora would have been twenty eight today.”

Tim stared out over the parking lot, eyes fixed. He leaned against the car.

“I’m sorry.” Louie came to stand beside him.

“You see,” Tim continued. “I do know what it is like for you and Scott. I held Nora, screaming into my radio for an EMU. It was too late. At least you still have Scott. Nora was the bravest, funniest, smartest cop I had ever known and we were both rookies and we got ambushed when we stumbled onto a drug buy going down. I will never get to tell Nora all that. You can tell Scott anytime you feel like it.”

“We’re in deep shit, you know that right?” Louie changed the subject. Tim was crying now and he felt about two inches high, considering what a pain in the ass he had been.

“So we go tell Lt. what we did.” Tim dried his eyes quickly and opened the car. “Then we go to Captain Hyatt with what we know and hope we don’t get screwed.”

“Ok partner,” Louie patted him on the back and got in his side of the car.
