Thanks for reading and commenting. You're rapidly creating a soft spot in my heart for you. Keep reading and writing, girl!
If you'd like to read King's book, its available in most public libraries thanks to his enormous popularity.

That he is, Darlin'
and one who paid his dues and persevered. His book is one of the best about writing I've ever read because it is more than a writing manual, its a personal account of how one talented writer refused to give up and persevered until he succeeded. His story is not that much different than many other famous writers. He does, however have a well of telling a tale and giving advice that are so much more palatable than what we get from most of them.

beachbelle, Darlin'
I know you did. You, me, and a few others will just have to keep hitting them about the head and shoulders to remind 'em of the basics until they get it. The fringe benefit is that we keep reminding ourselves while we try to get the message across. That's why I quoted King. If they won't listen to us, maybe they'll listen to him.

Thanks, write4u
There are tricks and techniques galore that promise magic results. But nothing beats the basics and the lessons learned from them. I'm always pleased when I find other people who know this.
