I am not precious about my writing and will listen to all criticism quite seriously so long as it is from other writers. You cannot please all of the public all of the time.

If there's a purpose in the rough language - to help readers understand a character or to emphasize the mood, then use your words. Pointless cussing doesn't add anything. From time to time when I'm writing something my word processor highlights a word and says it may be offensive to my readers. This ticks me off. Like I wouldn't know it might be offensive. On the other hand, it keeps me on my toes.
