I was already retired the first time I tried NaNoWriMo. The first
attempt taught me that I needed to have a plot outline and write down the names of all the characters before starting. It's one thing to dive right in for a short story, but for the 30-day marathon there were times I'd forget where I was going with a thread, or I'd mis-remember a character's name. I was able to complete seven novels with the help of NaNoWriMo, five worth taking the time later to edit and polish. Two that I self-published got good feedback from readers. These days my short-term memory doesn't work well enough to focus on such a long project. I wish everybody great success! I think it's a great writing tool.

I know it can take me a long time to write a book and is one BIG reason I am writing the first draft here in blogit.

Good afternoon
Some people have that natural talent. Others, not so much. I guess that is what makes us individuals. Good luck to you.

Good Morning
I did this for a few years but I find it very stressful. I'm skipping it this year. I wish you the best and hope you finish by the deadline.
