Our two and a half story house with basement, wrap around porch and big windows had many of those features but it was still mighty hot and steamy in July & August. The window fans only seemed to circulate hot air. So thankful for airconditioning now.

and a basement retreat area. mostly basement were for keeping potatoes etc from rotting but they were cool to sit in as well.
