I aver....
While Greenspan usually speaks in convoluted ambiguities, what he said yesterday was that SS must be modified in some way because the Bush tax cuts (which Greenspan may or may not be for depending on which book you read) and the demands put on SS & Medicare by the 70 million baby boomers will cause financial chaos when they are finally joined (some 5 to 10 years hence).
To a president with compassionate heart and a logical brain this should mean that the tax cuts for the rich should be forsaken for the sake of the solvency of the SS system which is a bare necessity for millions of people. But since George W. Bush, who has never demonstrated much compassion and little if any logic or sense of responsibility in his long and wastrel life, is president, it is clear that the tax cuts will trump any basic needs that the vast majority of seniors and baby boomers will have.
Greenspan is a hypocritical chameleon who demanded balanced budgets from Clinton to keep interest rates low but who makes no such demands on his fellow Republican, George W. Bush, who has recklessly and stupidly instituted huge unnecessary tax cuts for the rich with resulting record deficits.

ditto that last comment...
that is exactly what Greenspan said...though, as usual, it takes a rocket scientist with a decoder ring to figure out what Greenspan ever says. The long and short of it is Bush tax cuts need to be made permanent and the Social Security program needs to be changed. I didn't agree with the post, but..

ummmmm . . . sorry . . .
. . . but that's not what Greenspan said . . .
He said that the Bush tax cuts should be made permanent in order to keep strengthening the economy, and that what needs to be cut is the social security benefits we soft Americans have so fallen in love with - incidentally a program which was started by democrats, though now both parties seem enamored by it. Get the real story in this article.
