Thank you friends, for your input. I’m lucky to have a close friend there who lives 20 minutes away, a kind of substitute grandmother, who is keeping an eye on her. With no grandchildren of her own I know she loves to see the babies too. It helps.

I does sound like things are becoming too hard to handle. You really don't need this worry. I don't suppose whatever you say will make a difference. Blue mould makes me shudder though. It is a pain to keep black mould free in the shower.

perhaps it is time to tell him she will come back if and when the house is made livable.What adults can tolerate can be too dangerous for small children. Fly screens and doors etc are a must in australia and of course she needs a decent washing machine even if it is a second hand.
